Executive Summary

Reed Manufacturing, a pipe tool and vise manufacturer in Erie, Pennsylvania, had product data scattered across its ERP, DAM, website, and separate compliance files. Unilog consolidated and normalized 1,800 SKUs into CX1 PIM, giving REED a single source to syndicate trusted content to distributors three different ways.

Product Data in Five Places

For years, Reed Manufacturing stored product information across multiple repositories: core data in its ERP, digital assets in its DAM, and marketing content on its website. Proposition 65 data was maintained separately by its compliance officer, while weight and cube measurements lived in yet another file.

Collecting data from these disparate sources to share with distributors was time-consuming and hurt both efficiency and speed to market. Marketing Director Marnie Caldwell was tasked with consolidating everything into a single repository so REED could more easily syndicate consistent, comprehensive product information to its channel partners.

Consolidated, Normalized, Ready to Syndicate

REED enlisted Unilog to consolidate its product data, normalize it for consistency, and import content for 1,800 SKUs into CX1 PIM, a product information management tool that gives the manufacturer a single source for all its product content.

Caldwell found CX1 PIM’s export and import functionality superior to competitive products, and its data-layer capabilities make content easier to manage. Through CX1 PIM, REED now delivers trusted data to trading partners three ways:

Excel file export

REED exports a single Excel file of its latest product data and sends it to distributors.

FTP file transmission

For distributors with custom data needs, REED delivers data via an FTP transmission configured by Unilog.

Content syndication programs

REED participates in Unilog’s Content Syndication Program and Google Manufacturer Center to make its latest content accessible to shared distribution customers.

Hours of Data Work, Down to Minutes

Streamlined product information management and syndication have transformed how REED does business.

Flexible PIM subscription

CX1 PIM’s pricing structure suits mid-size manufacturers, unlike providers geared to companies with 100,000+ SKUs.

Huge efficiencies

Building a single distributor file once required exporting and combining six files over multiple hours; it now takes minutes.

Multiple workspaces and approval workflows

Three team members work in separate workspaces, with changes routed through an approval workflow before publishing to the master catalog.

Extended distributor reach

REED feeds enriched data into Unilog’s Content Syndication Program at no additional charge, helping grow its distribution network.

Customized fields

Unilog added custom fields for REED, including unit weight and cube measurements and supplemental California Proposition 65 information.

Customers have been asking us for consolidated data for years, but it wasn’t until we partnered with Unilog that we were able to deliver on their expectations.
