About the Role
We are hiring senior engineers who set the technical bar. People who design systems that stay simple as they scale, and who use AI tooling to operate at a multiple of conventional engineering output without lowering the quality bar. This is a hands-on senior individual-contributor role with real influence over architecture, standards, and how the team builds. Speed and quality are not a trade-off here; AI-leveraged engineering is how we get both.
What you’ll do
- Own the design and delivery of complex, high-impact systems end to end, from architecture through production operation.
- Set and raise the engineering quality bar across design rigor, code quality, testing, observability, performance, and security.
- Use AI-assisted development to multiply your own and the team’s throughput, while keeping correctness, maintainability, and security non-negotiable.
- Make sound architecture and build-vs-buy trade-offs, write clear design documents, and drive technical decisions with evidence rather than opinion.
- Turn ambiguous problems into well-scoped, well-designed solutions in partnership with product.
- Mentor engineers and raise the team’s design and AI-leverage practices through high-standard design and code review.
Engineering design and quality
This is the core of the role.
- Systems thinking: designs that are simple, composable, and evolvable, with clear contracts and boundaries and explicit failure modes.
- Durable simplicity over cleverness. You reduce complexity rather than add it, and you optimize for the engineer who maintains this in two years.
- Quality as a first-class output, not an afterthought: automated testing, CI/CD, observability, performance, and security built in from the start.
- Strong fundamentals applied in practice: data modeling, concurrency, distributed systems, API design, and data stores.
AI-leveraged productivity (the 10x expectation)
We expect senior engineers to treat AI tooling as core craft, not a novelty.
- Fluent with LLM coding assistants and agentic development workflows, and actively using them to accelerate design exploration, implementation, refactoring, testing, review, and documentation.
- Clear-eyed about where AI output must be verified, hardened, and owned by the engineer. You know the failure modes of AI-generated code (correctness, security, maintainability) and have the discipline to catch them.
- Continuously push the team’s productivity frontier: better prompting, tooling, guardrails, and evaluation, so leverage compounds across the team rather than staying personal.
- You measure the gain honestly. Output goes up and quality holds or improves; you can show both.
What we’re looking for
- Senior-level experience building and operating production software at scale (typically 6+ years).
- A track record of shipping complex systems end to end, with strong system design and architecture skills.
- Deep proficiency in a modern backend or full-stack environment, with strong computer-science fundamentals.
- Demonstrated, current use of AI development tools to increase both output and quality.
- High standards for code quality, testing, and operational excellence.
- Clear written and verbal communication; able to drive alignment through design docs and reviews.
- An ownership mindset and comfort with ambiguity and end-to-end responsibility.
Nice to have
- Experience with B2B SaaS, multi-tenant platforms, or high-scale, data-intensive systems.
- Experience introducing AI-native engineering practices to a team.
- Depth in cloud, platform, or infrastructure engineering.
What success looks like in the first 6–12 months
- You own a significant system or domain and measurably raise its quality and delivery velocity.
- Your AI-leveraged workflow lifts your throughput and the team’s, with quality metrics holding or improving.
- The design and review standards you set are adopted by others.
